Curves

RenderMan Teapot fabricated the Woolly Tools plugin for Blender

The RenderMan Curve primitive is a great geometry type for rendering hair and fur, as it’s designed to render a multitude of very thin strands efficiently.

See Curves for more information.

Curve Types

RfB should be able to render most curve types in Blender. However, not all settings may be supported.

Curve Widths

If you want to vary the width of your curve, you can do so by selecting your object and going to Edit Mode. Select the vertex you want to change the width, and change the radius setting.

And, here’s an example render:

Rendering and Shading Curves

Curves are best shaded with PxrMarschnerHair or LamaHairChiang materials. To color or texture curves, use a PxrHairColor pattern, which provides options for melanin, dye, strand variation, and more.

To add variation to your materials, use the index primvar in PxrhairColor > hairIndexPrimvar attribute.
